This section enables you to follow up on the daily activities of meetings and proceedings that we organize in order to achieve our mandates and ensure the visibility of the FNQLEDC.


November 25-27 2008: In Quebec, the FNQLEDC attends and takes part in the First Nations Chiefs’ Assembly.

November 24 2008: In Wendake, a meeting of the Ad hoc committee was held concerning the orientations and the priorities of the First Nations of Quebec Business Network.  The discussions addressed mainly the issues of funding, training of an entrepreneurial committee, the 2009 upcoming trade fairs, and the new designation of the Network. 

November 19 2008: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC participates in the meeting held between the AFNQL and the Mining Group, New Millenium, with the purpose of gauging their potential socioeconomic interventions in the Innu and Naskapi communities.

November 13 2008: In Quebec, the FNQLEDC participates in the AFNQL Chiefs’ Strategic committee.

November 12-13 2008: The FNQLEDC visited the Cree communities of Ouje-Bougoumou and Waswanipi.  We did a follow-up of our projects, interviews for Nikan, held meetings with the local media and had photo opportunities in the community.

November 12-13 2008: The FNQLEDC visited the Cree communities of Waskaganish and Nemiscau concerning the First Nations Forest Solidarity Coop (FNFSC). It was an opportunity for us to give our support to the CEDAs in the fulfillment of their mandates, and to gather information for the completion of the community development profile and to meet the entrepreneurs of the community.

November 5 2008: In Wendake, a meeting of the Board of Directors of the First Nations Forest Solidarity Coop was held, which entity is administered by the FNQLEDC.

October 29 2008:
The FNQLEDC met with Aboriginal Business Canada (ABC) in Wendake in order to provide them with a follow up on the First Nations of Quebec Business and Partnership Network (FNQBPN).

October 21-22-23 2008: The FNQLEDC was in Victoriaville to attend the 2008 Conference of the Association Québécoise de Gestion et de la Végétation (AQGV).

October 14-15-16 2008: The FNQLEDC visited Unamen Shipu and Uashat mak Mani-Utenam in order to provide support to the CEDOs with respect to the completion of their mandates, to gather information, to complete the community development profile, and to finish the questionnaire concerning the search for partnerships for the creation of the First Nations forestry cooperative.

September 29-30 2008:
The FNQLEDC paid a visit to the Algonquin communities, Pikogan and Eagle Village. The goal of the visit was to provide support to the CEDOs in the execution of their mandates, to gather information to complete the community profiles and to meet with community entrepreneurs.

September 24 2008:
In Wendake, the FNQLEDC invited its CEDOs as well as various other participants to attend its Annual General Assembly.

September 23 2008:
In Wendake, a day for reflection with INAC was organized to consider the course of actions from the Working Committee. The goal is to ensure that  new economic development framework from the federal government is compatible with First Nations realities.

September 18:
In Val-d’or, the FNQLEDC organized the Second Forum of First Nations Entrepreneurs. Nearly 100 participants made recommendations for the creation of First Nations business network.

September 16 2008:
In Wendake, the First Nations Human Resource Development Commission (FNQHRDC) paid a visit to the FNQLEDC for discussion of their respective projects.

September 11-12 2008:
In Ottawa, the FNQLEDC attended the seminar Wind + 2008, a workshop on wind energy and Aboriginal communities in order to support a wind project in Listuguj.

September 10 2008:
In Wendake, the FNQLEDC, the First Nations Education Council (FNEC) and the Association des clubs d’entrepreneurs étudiants (ACEE) du Québec discussed a project for the creation of student entrepreneur clubs in First Nations communities.

August 29 2008:
In Wendake, the FNQLEDC meets with the FNQLHSSC to define its involvement in the project called Fighting Poverty in Quebec’s First Nations communities

August 26-27 2008: In Wendake, the employees of the FNQLEDC attend a training session.

August 20-21-22 2008: In Halifax, the federal government unveils the details of its participation process concerning the elaboration of a new federal framework for the economic development of Aboriginals.  The FNQLEDC attends the event.

August 19: In Quebec, the FNQLEDC participates in the reflection day of the partnership committee of the 2006-2009 Youth Action Strategy.  One of the main objectives is to find ways to promote the development of Quebec’s young entrepreneurs.

August 5: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC meets with the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO) to assess the possibilities of partnerships in providing a mentoring service.

July 29: The FNQLEDC met with the Quebec Aboriginal Tourism Corporation (QATC) in Quebec City to relaunch the discussion about a possible partnership.

July 21-23: The FNQLEDC visited Kawawachikamach and Matimekush-Lac-John communities concerning the First Nations Solidarity Forestry Coop (FNSFC). It was also an opportunity to offer our support the Community Economic Development Agents (CEDAs) in the fulfilment of their mandates and to meet various business people in the community.

July 14: The FNQLEDC met the Quebec Federation of Forestry Cooperatives (QFFC) to discuss the current situation between the QFFC and the First Nations Solidarity Forestry Coop (FNSFC).

July 16 and 23: Technical training offered to FNQLEDC and FNQLSDI staff following the computer system update in Wendake.

July 15-16: The FNQLEDC attended to the AFN's national committee on economic development and participated as an exhibitor during the Annual General Assembly of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) in Quebec City.

July 10: FNQLEDC Board meeting in Quebec City.

June 26: FNQLEDC computer networking by the First Nations Education Council (FNEC)

June 25-26 : The FNQLEDC visits the communities of Listuguj and Gesgapegiag. The objective is to provide support to the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates and to meet some entrepreneurs and people from the community.

June 20 : In Quebec, the FNQLSDI and the FNQLEDC are among the exhibitors at the First Nations of Quebec Open House Day, organized by the AFNQL.

June 19 : The FNQLEDC is present at the 10th edition of the Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest. At the presentation of the First Nations Award, two entrepreneurs of the First Nations receive a prize of 5 000 $ each.

June 17 : In Quebec, second meeting of the working committee, constituted of community economic development officers and representatives of the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, to follow up on the progress and provide an input from the First Nations in the establishment of a new Aboriginal economic development framework by the federal government. 

June 16 : The FNQLEDC visits the community of Kanesatake. The objective is to bring in support to the CEDO in the fulfillment of her mandates and to meet some entrepreneurs and people from the community. 

June 9-13 : The FNQLEDC travels to the communities of Mashteuiatsh, Mistissini, Ouje-Bougoumou and Waswanipi. The objective is to bring in support to the CEDAs in the fulfillment of their mandates and meet some entrepreneurs and people from the community.

June 4: In Quebec, it is the inaugural First Nations of Quebec Entrepreneurial Forum, an event organized by the FNQLEDC.

May 29: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC presents his organization to the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board (NAEDB).

May 21: In Quebec, first meeting of the Working Committee, formed by Community Economic Development Officers (CEDO) and representatives of the department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), to follow up on the progress and bring a First Nation opinion on the creation of a new framework for Aboriginal economic development by the federal government.

May 13-14: The FNQLEDC went to see the Algonquin communities of Long Point and Eagle Village. The goal is to support the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates, to gather the required information to complete the community profiles and to visit some entrepreneurs.

May 13 : In Wendake, meeting between the FNQLEDC and the Centre d'études collégiales de Chibougamau concerning the realization of the 2008-2009 training plan of the Commission.

April 24: In Quebec, the selection jury for the First Nations Award met to determine the two winning projects. The winners will be known at the Gala of the Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest, which will be held this coming June 19th.

April 17: The FNQLEDC traveled to Lac Simon to discuss a partnership project on forestry training and the actions to be taken to develop a form of lobbying in the organization of a socioeconomic symposium in the community.

April 16: In Rouyn-Noranda, the FNQLEDC visited the Ministry of Natural Resources to assess the perspective of a contract for the Solidarity Forestry Coop.

April 15: In Mont-Laurier, the FNQLEDC met with the Coopérative forestière des Hautes-Laurentides to discuss a partnership with the First Nations Solidarity Forestry Coop.

April 9: In Quebec, meeting of the ad hoc committee for the creation of a First Nations Entrepreneurial Service, which will now be known under the name of « First Nations of Quebec Entrepreneurs’ Business and Partnerships Network ».

March 27th: Exploratory meeting with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada to define possibilities of action for the revision of programs.

March 26th: In Québec, the FNQLEDC is present at the meeting of the technical committee and the extended forestry committee, organized by the FNQLSDI.

March 25th – 26th: In Québec, training on the promoter assistance – p rocess and resources (Part 1).

March 14th: In Chicoutimi, the FNQLEDC makes a presentation during the Forum on the stakes of the occupation of the northern territories of Québec.

March 6th: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC participates in the working group on the Green Paper, a document produced by the government of Québec

February 26th - 28th: In Québec, the FNQLEDC participates in the Chiefs’ Assembly of the First Nations.

February 20th: The FNQLEDC attends the Chiefs’ Strategic Committee in preparation for the Chiefs’ Assembly which will take place from February 26th to February 28th 2008.

 

February 15th: The FNQLEDC materializes the creation of the First Nations Solidarity Forestry Coop during the first assembly of the Board of Directors of that cooperative.

February 13th: The FNQLEDC participates, as speaker, to the symposium on the challenges of sustainable development of the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Sustainable Development Institute (FNQLSDI).

February 6th: The FNQLEDC greets Rexforêt to discuss certain details of their current training program, and the optimum manner in which to implement it for the workers of the First Nations forestry cooperative.

February 5th: The FNQLEDC consults the community of Manawan concerning the First Nations forestry cooperative and takes steps with the Coopérative forestières des Hautes-Laurentides for an eventual partnership (job creation) with the First Nations’ Coop.

January 31st: FNQLEDC Board of directors meeting in Val d’Or.

January 29th and 30th: At Val-d’Or, training on the methods of analysis to take stock of the opportunities provided to the French-speaking CEDOs.

January 22nd and 23rd: At Chicoutimi, training on the methods of analysis to take stock of the opportunities provided to the French-speaking CEDOs.

January 22nd: Discussions take place between the FNQLEDC and representatives of the Ministère des Ressources Naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF) to assess the possibilities of partnership with the First Nations forestry cooperative. Also, the FNQLEDC inquires on the forestry investment program of the MRNF.

January 22nd: The FNQLEDC meets with Ms Christiane Courtois, Director of the centre d’études amérindiennes at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), in regards to the possibility of re-launching the Short-term Graduate Studies Program in Socioeconomic Development for the CEDO.

 

December 13: In Quebec City, the FNQLEDC meets with the Quebec Aboriginal Tourism Corporation (QATC) to discuss an eventual partnership regarding tourism projects among Quebec’s First Nations.

December 11-12: In Quebec City, the FNQLEDC attends the Summit on the future of the forestry sector.

December 10-11: In Ottawa, the AFNQL and its regional commissions, including the FNQLEDC, met with authorities of the federal government and the opposition parties to brief them on the issues and the goals advocated by the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador. The FNQLEDC took the opportunity to present, among other things, its organization and to discuss its priorities.

 

November 30 : In Wendake, the FNQLEDC attended the meeting of the Chiefs’ Committee on Strategy.

November 29 : In Quebec, the FNQLEDC, Aboriginal Business Canada (ABC), Economic Development Canada (EDC) and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) are combining their efforts for the Federal Meeting on First Nations Economic Development. The discussions will focus on, among other things, INAC programming and Quebec’s interest in joining the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board (NAEDB).

November 9 : In Quebec, the FNQLEDC is taking part in the bi-annual Quebec SADC Network presentations as a panelist for the discussion of Aboriginal Communities and Development.

November 5 : In Wendake, the FNQLEDC hosted the representatives of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) who are conducting the follow-up on projects funded by their organization over the past year.

October 31: The FNQLEDC meets with André Tremblay and René Babin of the Quebec Federation of Forestry Cooperatives to further the development of the constitution for the First Nations Forestry Cooperative.

October 24-25: The FNQLEDC visits the Innu communities of Essipit and Betsiamites on the Upper North Shore. We undertake the follow-up of our projects, the interview for Nikan, the meeting with the local media and some photo sessions in the community.

October 22-23: Within the scope of the community visits, the CDEPNQL travels to the Innu communities of Uashat and Betsiamites, in preparation for the establishment of the First Nations Forestry Cooperative.

October 18-19: The FNQLEDC takes an active part, as panelist, in the 2007 conference of the Quebec Vegetation Management Association.

October 16: The FNQLEDC attends the Chiefs’ Strategic Committee meeting in Montreal.

 

September 29: The FNQLEDC travels to Uashat to give a presentation on the proposed First Nations forestry cooperative, within the scope of the Forum Emploi Jeunesse Innu, organized by the Regroupement Mamit Innuat Inc.

 

September 25: Meeting planned with John Mckennirey - Assistant Deputy Minister, Aboriginal Economic Development- concerning the Regional economic intervention fund (FIER) as well as the possibility of a national financing for the FNQLEDC.

 

September 24: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC meets with Mr. Christian André of the Comité sectoriel de main d’œuvre en aménagement forestier (CSMOAF) to discuss a potential partnership in regards to the First Nations forestry cooperative project.

 

September 19-20: The FNQLEDC takes part in the 7th edition of the Carrefour de la recherche forestière organized by the ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife. Aside from attending various workshops, we also presented our project of a First Nations forestry cooperative.

 

September 12: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC meets with Ms Genevieve Masse, of the ministry of Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE) and with Mr. Jean-François Coulombe, of the Secrétariat aux affaires autochtones (SAA), for an update on the regional strategic planning.

 

September 6: The 2006-2007 General Assembly of the FNQLEDC took place in Quebec City. Close to fifty persons attended the assembly, including 25 community economic development officers.

 

September 5: The FNQLEDC, in collaboration with the AFNQL, is convening the Chiefs to a special assembly to discuss three key subjects : the establishment of a regional economic intervention fund (FIER) for the First Nations, the co-management of the future residual sums from the Fonds d’initiatives autochtones (FIA) of the SAA and the energy projects linked to the 250 Megawatts.

August 28-30: The FNQLEDC travels to Ouje-Bougoumou and Mistissini to continue the survey on the establishment of a First Nations forestry cooperative.

August 28-29: Project of First Nations forestry cooperative – the FNQLEDC is assisted by a resource person from the Quebec Federation of Forestry Cooperatives (FQCF) to put the finishing touches to our funding application to the ASEP.

 

August 27: In Dushesnay, the FNQLEDC organizes the biannual meeting of regional planning with Canada Economic Development, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and Aboriginal Business Canada

August 23: In Québec, meeting of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the FNQLEDC.

August 22: The FNQLEDC presents the project of a First Nations forestry cooperative at the board of directors meeting of the Quebec Federation of Forestry Cooperatives (FQCF). The FQCF is one of our key partners in the development of the First Nations forestry cooperative project.

August 13: In Wendake, the FNQLEDC meets with the Société Rexforêt to discuss their training program which is in effect in several First Nations communities. The objective is to seek the possibility of a partnership when establishing a First Nations forestry cooperative.

 

August 8: In Montréal, the FNQLEDC meets with Service Canada concerning the proposed First Nations forestry cooperative. The objective is to get strategic information on the funding available at the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership Program (ASEP), as recently announced.

 

July 30 to August 3: The coordinator of forestry projects meets with the Algonquin communities of Pikogan, Rapid Lake and Kitcisakik.

 

July 23-26 : The FNQLEDC will be visiting Ottawa to review certain files including funding and a courtesy call to the managers of the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (ASEP). As we move forward with the First Nation forestry cooperative pilot project, the ASEP may provide important financial support for the training of the labour force.

 

July 23-27 : The FNQLEDC traveled to the Micmac communities of Gespeg, Gesgapegiag and Listuguj to study the proposed establishment of a First Nations forestry cooperative.

 

July 17-18 : Visit of the FNQLEDC in the communities of Listuguj and Gesgapegiag in the Gaspésie region. We have made the follow-up on regional development projects, the interview for the Nikan, the meeting with the local media and various photo shots in the community.

 

July 9-13 : The FNQLEDC went to see the Algonquin communities of Eagle Village, Timiskaming and Winneway. The goal is to support the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates and to gather the required information to complete the community profiles.

 

July 12 : Approval of the 2006-2007 financial statements of the FNQLEDC will be done by the Board of Directors during a conference call and a videoconference.

July 3-6 : Moving of the FNQLEDC. Our new address is 250 Place Michel-Laveau suite 101.

 

June 28 : Meeting of the FNQLEDC Board of Directors, in Quebec City.

 

June 27 : Meeting of the FNQLEDC Executive Committee, in Quebec City.

 

June 18-20 : The FNQLEDC visited the Innu communities of Essipit and Betsiamites.

 

June 19 : The FNQLEDC attends the Gala of the Quebec Entrepreneurship Contest to award the First Nations Award, a prize that went to two First Nations entrepreneurs.

 

June 15-16 : Following up on their commitments, several Chiefs of the First Nations and representatives of the federal and provincial governments met to follow up on the First Nations Socio Economic Forum, which was held in Mashteuiatsh, in October 2006. The FNQLEDC was also in attendance.

 

June 13-15 : The FNQLEDC visited the Atikamekw community of Opitciwan. The goal is to support the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates and to gather the required information to complete the community profiles.

 

June 11-15 : The FNQLEDC traveled to the Algonquin communities of Eagle Village and Wolf Lake to study the proposed establishment of a First Nations forestry cooperative.

 

June 12-14 : The FNQLEDC attends the Assembly of First Nations Chiefs in Quebec City.

 

June 5-8 : The FNQLEDC went to see the Cree communities of Waswannipi, Oujé-Bougoumou and Mistissini. The goal is to support the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates and to gather the required information to complete the community profiles.

 

June 4-8 : The FNQLEDC traveled to the Algonquin communities of Timiskaming and Long Point to study the project of forestry cooperatives.

 

May 30-31: The FNQLEDC attends in Val d’Or the Workforce Connex Regional Forum.

 

May 30-31: The FNQLEDC visits the communities of Mingan and Uashat mak Mani-Utenam. The goal is to support the CEDOs in the fulfillment of their mandates and to gather the required information to complete the community profiles.

 

May 23-24: The coordinator of forestry projects is in Kitigan Zibi to validate the English version of his research protocol (questionnaire).

 

May 23-24: The economic development advisor of the FNQLEDC visits the communities of Pakua Shipi and La Romaine.

 

May 23 : In Trois-Rivières, second meeting of the working group formed of the FNQLEDC, aboriginal private entrepreneurs and representatives of the federal and provincial governments for the creation of a service to support the First Nations entrepreneurs.

 

May 8-9-10: The coordinator of forestry projects is in Mashteuiatsh to validate the French version of his research protocol (quesitonnaire).

 

May 8-9-10: In Kahnawake, training on business incubation provided to the English and French-speaking CEDAs.

 

May 7: Beginning of the renovations in preparation for the upcoming moving of the FNQLEDC offices.

May 2: In Québec, the FNQLEDC gathers the selection jury for the First Nations Prizes, in order to select the two winning projects.
